P.S I Silk You by Hermes

Posted by Mark Ong On October - 30 - 2009

Luxury brand Hermès has brought its bespoke style to the streets by way of its P.S. I Silk You postcard exhibition and studio. A celebration of individual style, models will be photographed wearing Hermès silk scarves – as a tie, an elaborate headband, a tube top or even a creatively fashioned belt. The end results will be printed on a set of postcards, the front graced with your photograph, the back with sentences left blank for you to compose your own personal note to friends and loved ones. Not quite sure what your Hermès look should be? Take a style note from the exhibitions of 100 celebrities and local personalities who’ve already been photographed for the cause.

All proceeds go towards Beautiful People, a volunteer platform that connects professionals and skilled persons with voluntary welfare organisation.

I was photographed earlier as part of this P.S I Silk You project by Hermes, and I’ve a post card written to someone special. Check out the exhibition, it’ll be along Orchard Road, in front of Wisma Atria and Ngee Ann City. Exhibition is on from 30 October and 15 November, from 11am to 8pm.

Day 4: KICKS LAB VOL 04

Posted by Mark Ong On October - 27 - 2009

Finally found some time to write, here’s a recap of day four of my stay in Tokyo.

Got up bright and early to head down to KICKS LAB to get ready for the KICKS LAB event. The event at Club Nuts in Shibuya, Tokyo kicked off at 12 noon and we were shocked to see a queue forming outside the venue before the doors were open. It was awesome to feel so much support and love from these sneaker enthusiasts who came down for the event. Clearly they love their sneakers as much as we do at Royalefam.

The turnout at the event was overwhelming. Even Mr Suzuki San from Loopwheeler, whom we’d met the day before, came down to the event with his wife to support us! Maya Lynn, our model, came to support us at the event too, and even introduced us to Kaya from Six Scents. And one of the members from Japanese hip-hop group Nitro Microphone was there at the event too! It does feel pretty damn good to have met up with so many friends who happened to be in Japan while we’re here, and once again, big thank you to all who came and gave us your support.

My collaboration with DC seems to be getting lots of attention from the magazines here in Japan too, got interviewed by HIDDEN CHAMPION and had a photoshoot. Can’t wait till the Circus of Mutants project is launched! And on that, do keep checking back because there are some exciting stuff happening in the coming months. ;-)

Big up to Kazz, who owns the shop Fight Club here in Tokyo. He’s got some dope stuff up on his site, so do check it out! It was also nice to have met Tetsuya Lizuka from KIKSTYO, Sato from ATMOS and Shaun McKenna from Japan Times. I hope to meet up with you guys again!

Japan Day 3

Posted by Mark Ong On October - 25 - 2009

There’s always something new to do in Japan. Today I went with the Royalefam crew to a Cage Force match! An Olympic silver medalist went up against an underdog who have recorded zero losses… Who won? Guess you’ll have to find out next month when it’s broadcasted.

And today has been a truly unforgettable day, as we met with Mr Suzuki San from Loopwheeler, know for their sweatshirts that are made in Japan. Their name takes cue from the machine called ‘Loopwheel’ which were used back in the late 40’s to mid 60’s to knit the sweatshirts in the States. Loopwheeler sweatshirts are adored by many for its quality, which is made possible by the Loopwheel machine used to knit the sweatshirts.

I don’t think you can find any sweatshirts that are more comfortable than the ones from Loopwheeler! And check out this video about Loopwheeler for an insight as to why they are THE premium fleece manufacturer.

Tokyo has been awesome so far, but I’ve to say this trip would not have been possible without a few of these people. Mad props and shout out to Kullen Ozaki from FRESHNESS who’s been the one hooking us up with all the awesome guys here in Japan and Shigeki-san from KICKS LAB who’s been working hard to revive the sneaker scene in Japan. Without Kullen and Shigeki, the Royalefam crew and myself would never have had this opportunity to showcase our stuff and share our love for sneakers with the good people here in Japan.

Day 2 in Japan!

Posted by Mark Ong On October - 25 - 2009

Waking up in Tokyo feels different, there’s this urge to get out on the streets of Tokyo as early as I can. There’s something about the air in Tokyo…

Today we met up with Koichi, marketing manager representing DC Japan for an interview. Travelled to a skate shop situated in Shibuya, where the interview was done and photos were taken. Thanks to my bro, Melvin who helped snap some shots during my interview.

Second interview for the day was for this Japanese sneaker magazine SHOES MASTER. The magazine looks awesome, and I’m glad to be featured in its upcoming issue.

Koichi brought us to the best ramen place, and it was a really interesting experience. Customers pay and get assigned to a cubicle where you enjoy your ramen on your own. The ramen was awesome and the Japanese really have got a systematic way of handling their customers!

Managed to squeeze in some time to do a little shopping before having dinner with Shigeki from KICKSLAB. Day 2’s been a blast, more to come and don’t forget, the KICKS LAB event happens Sunday at Shibuya Nuts. Come join the Royalefam crew!

Royalefam / SBTG – ohplay

Posted by Mark Ong On October - 19 - 2009

Open

The year 2009 saw the undeniable expansion of the Royalefam empire, we promptly jumped at the chance to produce a business card for Mark Ong (SBTG) that reflects the opulence of his brand. With his U.S based target audience in mind, we proposed the idea of having his cards in the form of US$1000 bills. The response has been tremendous and the Royalefam team, we’ve been told, have since poured bags full out of their hotel suite while on tour for effect.
